Based on the importance of exploiting the accumulation of data to achieve the objectives of institutions, this study presents a proposed model for business intelligence in higher education institutions to support decision makers; Where business intelligence enables data to be accessed and analyzed, converted into information, and then into knowledge to improve the decision-making process. The study aimed to identify the reality of business intelligence at King Abdulaziz University, and to discover the factors affecting it. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher followed a several methodologies to answer her questions. Different models for adopting business intelligence were analyzed, and a checklist was prepared to get acquainted with the reality of the university, and to develop the proposed model by taking advantage of the focus group. The study concluded that the proposed model can be generalized at the level of higher education institutions as a template for implementing business intelligence and raising awareness of business intelligence. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: the existence of an urgent need to apply business intelligence in institutions of higher education, and that the benefit of the university from the business intelligence system in analyzing its data will be limited unless there is a comprehensive conceptual vision to identify the necessary components of business intelligence, and the need to pay attention to data problems and achieve their quality because of its direct relationship with the application of business intelligence in all its stages, starting with the selection of data sources, followed by analysis and processing, and ending with presentation to decision makers. The study recommended the model as a framework for adopting business intelligence, and recommends that universities pay attention to data analysis, and make business intelligence a part of their basic culture. To deepen the awareness of the leaders in the university of the importance of applying it, and the university should pay attention to the factors driving business intelligence included in the proposed model; To take advantage of business intelligence, and benefit from the university's intellectual capital from academics and researchers in the field. |
