The current study aimed at identify gratitude and its relationship to the enjoyment of life in a sample of Saudi elderly, and identify the level of gratitude and the enjoyment of life among them, as well as finding differences in the gratitude and the enjoyment of life variables according to some demographic characteristics of the elderly (gender – education level – health state), and the contribution ratio of gratitude in predicting the enjoyment of life among the study sample. The sample of the study consisted of (130) elderly residing with their families, in the age range from 60-80 years with an average age (65,30) and a standard deviation (5,184); (71) females, and (59) males. The study used the comparative, predictive, correlational, descriptive approach. The study also used Gratitude Resentment and Appreciation Scale, prepared by Watkins, Stone & Koite, translated by Al-Furaih (2016), and The Enjoyment of Life Scale, prepared by Abd Al-Aal & Mazloom (2013).
The findings of the study showed the existence of a statistically significant correlation between gratitude and the enjoyment of life in a sample of Saudi elderly, and the existence of a high level of gratitude and a high level of the enjoyment of life. The study also found that there were no statistically significant differences in gratitude, according to gender, educational level and health state. The study also found no statistically significant differences in the enjoyment of life, according to gender and educational level and health state. Finally, the study found a significant predictive value of gratitude in predicting the enjoyment of life in a sample of Saudi elderly.
