Abstract |
: |
This study is concerned with the field of “earth surface”. The subject was
chosen on the bases of its importance that is seen in the richness of Arabic
vocabulary and its correlation between all the features of the earth and the Arabian
man. No separate integral dictionary contained these resources, and no past study,
according to what I have examined, highlighted it to clarify that momentum. We
have chosen the theories of Semantic Fields and Semantic Compositions because of
their organization of language material and the ways of analysis they provide. The
study depended on the subject of this field that is found in “Taj Al-Arous” dictionary
which was composed by Al-Zubaidy as it is the most comprehensive and complete
dictionary in relation to observing the linguistic material. This has been illustrated
through the material collected in this research.
The purpose of this study is generally to show again the innermost of the Arabic
heritage in the modern language theories. This denotes that these theories have
dimensions in the old Arabic studies. The western studies did not broach them until
the eighteenth century. The research has been divided into six chapters; the first is
a theoretical introduction to the subject of the thesis; where it briefly talked about
the tow theories of the Semantic Fields and the Composition Analysis from their
beginnings, then it talked about the roots of that theory in the Arabic heritage, and
the most important related literature. The remaining five chapters dealt with the
applied part of the research, which is a division and classification of the Semantic
Fields of the surface of earth into general fields. These fields are: the field of land in
general, and its field as described, and its field related to other considerations, and
the field of soil and the things related to it (dirt, sand, mud, dust) and, finally, blocks
and rocks (stones) field. These fields are subdivided into small and smaller fields.
Some of the fields that are made up of vocabulary of prominent semantic features
were put as models within the Semantic Field tables.
The most significant results achieved by this study is to provide a huge linguistic
material of words related to the surface of earth that reached (2884) words
organized and ordered as per a modern semantic view. Thus, this research refutes
the rumors about lexical studies as dealing with non-structural vocabulary. We
expect that this research would provide linguistic and lexical assistance to students
of natural geography and those interested in its terms, because this study puts their
hands on many options to put authentic Arabic terms covering many aspects of the
natural names and shapes of things lying within the circle of this science |
