The study aimed at examining the knowledge generation process through the use of Nonaka and Takeuchi model, and identify the most important techniques used to gain knowledge, the most important supporting tools for the techniques of acquisition of knowledge and the most important obstacles facing employees to gain knowledge from the perspective of senior management in the Saudi Telecom Company STC. The researcher used the descriptive survey method as a method for the study, a questionnaire prepared by the researcher as a tool for the study that includes two main themes: the first theme: knowledge generation that includes (25) items distributed on five sub-themes, the second theme: the acquisition of knowledge that includes (33) items distributed on three sub-themes. The questionnaire has been electronically prepared and the electronic link has been sent via messages center in the company to the society study members who represent three categories in the senior management of (STC), they are: Vice-President, General Manager and Director of Department. It has been responded from (133) Single of the total society study (390) Directors. The most important findings of the study were: there is a support for the exchange of implicit knowledge among individuals, there is a need to support the documentation of implicit knowledge at individuals, there is a support for the integration of explicit knowledge with other explicit knowledge available and related to the purposes of work, there is a support to convert explicit knowledge to implicit knowledge, and the success of the company in generating Knowledge. The most important knowledge acquisition techniques in (STC) are: Learning from other techniques such as attracting experts, sharing or learning on the job training (OJT), and documents and the questionnaire. There is a weakness in the use of observation and narrative or saying techniques. The most important tools to support the acquisition of knowledge in the company are E-mail, portals, systems of following up work, new media, conference calls, networking and system of TV halls. The most important results as well are the need to raise the concerning about developing the educational level of staff, support of learning and development incentives, expert support for staff, managers support for staff and clearly concerning about organizational structures and trends of communication between the various departments so as not to be an obstacle for the acquisition of knowledge. The most important recommendations were: the need to support career recycling plans across different departments to further support the exchange of knowledge, supporting the practice groups and documenting their discussions in the work area, supporting archiving (the outcome of the meetings, seminars, workshops, conferences, reports and others for reference if needed), and the need to take advantage of scientific research and published reports that serve the interests of the company. The study as well provided a proposed general framework as a model for generation and acquisition of knowledge in organizations. |
