Title of Thesis: Abdul Rahman Al-Barqooqy’s Al-Bayan Magazine: its status and impact in the development of modern literature.
This research aims to provide a study on Al-Bayan Magazine, issued in 1911-in Egypt, to clarify its position and role in advancing the process of contemporary literary movement and its impact on modern Arabic literature.
The research is divided into four chapters preceded by the introduction which contains a brief study of the governmental and private literary magazines issued before the time of Al- Bayat (an Arabic poet) including civil and newspapers and the levels of writing style in the press.
The first chapter includes a brief biography of Albarqooqi and his scientific status. This biography is followed by a study on the approach of Al-Bayan Magazine, which adopted three main points: reforming terminology error, linking the present time to the past and “Al-Bayan’s” understanding of literature.
The second chapter includes a study on “Al-Bayan" call for revival poetic heritage and the multiple means and methods to do so. The chapter also touches on the position of the magazine from the pro-slang invitations and its response to the issue of Egyptianizing Arabic Language.
The third chapter is devoted to the examination of all aspects of translation in the magazine, including Creative Arts: poetry, confession literature, story, theater and essay, as well as translated critical books and studies.
The fourth chapter is devoted to creative and critical works of the writers in Al-Bayan Magazine in the field of literature (poetry, prose and critical Studies).
The most important results of the research:
1. The impact of Al-Bayan Magazine on modern literature stems from the orthodox approach, most important of which is linking the present time to the past.
2. An important objective of the approach of Al-Bayan Magazine was to delete the borders between science and literature and journalism, which played an important role in giving an overarching meaning t o the word (literature) to include culture.
3. Al-Bayan Magazine focused on reviving heritage because it leads to the revival of Islamic spirit. It has considered the revival of heritage one of its weapons to confront the colonization in its time and an immune bulwark against the massive tide of Western culture and its domination over most of the Syrian newspapers.
4. Al-Bayan Magazine served modern literature by translation more than extracting from the Arab heritage. It found that translating masterpieces of western literature and culture is an urgent need in that era – the era of Renaissance and intellectual conflicts.
5. It contributed strongly to change the critical sense through understanding of all creative renewing energies for aspiring youth at that time, especially the famous trio Shokri, Mezniand Al-Akkad. |
