Abstract : This study examines the subject of educational characteristics of the population in the region of Jazan; study in the population geography. It aims to shed light on the variation of these properties are educational, as well as the study of spatial variation of various educational institutions through the application of geographical information systems (GIS) to identify the current locations of all educational establishments. This study has been at the level of Jazan region as a whole, and at the level of its provinces. The study used the descriptive analytical method as well as the spatial analysis in order to achieve the best results. To complete all the requirements of the study, data and information were collected through field work and comprehensive inventory of educational institutions in Jazan region. This contributes in building geographic database representing the coordinates of these educational institutions whose data was represented in many maps contained in this study. In addition to the office sources, various government reports, detailed information issued by the Department of Population Statistics in Jazan. The study included five chapters; the first chapter included an introduction of the study while the second chapter included natural and human characteristics of Jazan region. The third chapter discussed educational institutions and spatial spread including the analysis of spatial distribution patterns of such buildings and dispersion measurement, direction of distribution, domain, boundaries and Kernel Analysis. The fourth chapter, the main chapter in the study, focused on the classification of educational characteristics of the population and spatial variability, study the educational status of the population, the gender gap, and indicators of educational parity between males and females. The most important results and recommendations have been included in the fifth chapter. One of the most important results of the study included: that most of the educational institutions in the Jazan region built without taking into account the criteria set by the responsible authorities and did not take into account the natural and human factors that determine the applicability of these standards; the distribution pattern of these educational institutions especially in public education in the Jazan region generally dominated the centered pattern that leading to the service poor. In addition, there was some variation for the provinces as well as the domination of divergent irregular pattern in higher education institutions. The results of factor analysis degrees of the five factors related to educational characteristics of the population and spatial variability in Jazan region reveals that there are crowdedness and concentration in the provinces of central Tihama plain like the province of Jazan, Sibya, Abu Arish and Samtah of such factors. On the other hand, the results of factor analysis were very low in the eastern sector and the northern outskirts of the border area which underlined the contrast of population among the provinces educationally. The study concluded with a number of proposed solutions and recommendations that call in entirety to the expansion in the establishment of many schools for boys and girls at all levels of education and continuity of government financial support for students as well as reconsidering this amount so as to minimize school dropout . In addition to that, the study tackled establishment of many of kindergartens and attention to this group age of population, work to equitable distribution of colleges branches and institutes among the provinces. The study recommending limiting centralization of public and higher education in the provinces of Tihama plain and attention of mountainous areas educationally. Also, the study recommended spreading awareness among the people of remote mountainous and border areas tribes with regard to the importance of women's education and their role in building society. Researchers urged to rely on the style factor analysis, which can give statistical indicators highlighting effective factors more in such population studies as well as benefiting from geographical information systems (GIS) as an integrated system to help in logical analysis and accurate scientific interpretation of many of the study area phenomena. Besides, the research suggested performing geographical studies in the line of the present study to determine the educational characteristics of the population of each province or region in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
