This study aims to apply Geographic Information Systems-(GIS) techniques for studying private girls schools’ locations, and exploring the possibility of using this technique to choose the best location in the future, through applying regulations and standards followed in selecting the appropriate locations for schools. This study followed analytical and descriptive approaches as well as spatial analysis, for the purpose of achieving the best accurate results. To carry out all the requirements of this study, data and information have been gathered through field work and comprehensive survey of private girls schools in Jeddah city, and also through personal interviews and conducted reconnaissance visits, this have contributed together to build a geographical database which led to serve illustrated maps to appear through the study manuscript. The study showed, spatial distribution patterns of private girls' schools , in terms of proximity to each other, and the proximity to some land use within the geographical zone, such as : Boys government schools, main streets and highways, fuel stations, gas cylinders distribution centers and the effect of all these on the efficiency of the schools distribution. The study also identified central feature, mean center, dispersion of schools and trends of its spatial distribution. The study showed the ability of geographic information systems to handle data using of its spatial analysis functions. The study concluded that most of the private girls' schools in Jeddah have neglected most of the criteria issued by official authorities for establishing schools. The distribution patterns of these schools are generally, clustered pattern leading to weak service, with some variations in some districts inside the city. The study also concluded with proposed solutions and recommendations that call to using GIS, as an integrated system, to apply site location criteria when establishing schools, and improve and raise the efficiency levels of various services, particularly education ones. |
