Abstract
:
The paper discusses the present and future (1985-2010) water demands and the water resources of the Jeddah-Makkah-Taif (JMT) area in the Western Region of Saudi Arabia. Also given are data on water distribution, sewerage systems and capacities of treatment plants. Both the available and the projected amounts of wastewater for reuse are estimated. With these data, water demands are matched against available water resources to show the present water status in a tabular display format of a water balance model. In addition, this paper addresses the impending water crisis if water demand and supply are not brought into balance.
